Founding Sales Development Manager

Build the pipeline. Shape the process. Help define a category.

Coly is building a new category in higher education: a science-based platform that helps universities and off-campus housing providers design better student living experiences, reduce conflict, and improve student retention through deeper understanding of students.

We’re now looking for a Founding Sales Development Manager to take ownership of our outbound motion and help fill our pipeline with qualified meetings and leads, and play a key role in progressing opportunities all the way through to closed-won deals.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in complex B2B environments, and wants to help invent how we sell, not just execute a playbook.

What You’ll Do

1. Own outbound & meeting generation

  • Build and execute outbound outreach via cold email, LinkedIn, and calls
  • Book qualified meetings with: Directors of Housing, Deans of Students
  • Navigate institutional organizations with multiple stakeholders and complex decision paths
  • Build pipeline in an environment with heavily impacted by budget cycles
  • Work closely with founders to refine messaging, ICPs, and targeting

2. Grow into full-cycle sales

  • Lead discovery and deliver tailored, consultative demos
  • Run sales processes adapted to each institution’s context
  • Manage opportunities through internal reviews, budgeting, and procurement
  • Help define how Coly sells to higher education, including structure, process, and playbooks

3. Invent better ways to reach universities

Cold outreach is part of the job, but it’s not enough on its own.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Experiments with new and smarter outreach approaches
  • Thinks creatively about how to earn attention in a crowded higher-ed landscape
  • Helps design non-obvious entry points into institutions

This may include:

  • Insight-led outreach using data, benchmarks, or trends
  • Creative use of conferences, campus moments, and timing
  • Highly personalized approaches grounded in each institution’s reality
  • Collaborating with founders and marketing to test new sales motions

You won’t be handed a finished playbook here, you’ll help invent it.

What Success Looks Like

  • A consistently full calendar with high-quality, relevant meetings
  • A growing, well-qualified pipeline
  • Deals closed over time in a 6–12 month sales cycle
  • The sales cycle is consistently made shorter
  • Clear, repeatable outbound and sales processes others can build on

Who You Are

  • 3–5 years of experience in B2B sales, ideally in complex or institutional environments
  • Proven ability to book meetings through outbound efforts
  • Comfortable selling where: Multiple stakeholders are involved, Decisions take time and Persistence and follow-up matter
  • Structured, process-oriented, and self-directed
  • Resilient: silence and slow responses don’t discourage you
  • You take initiative and don’t wait for perfect instructions
  • Have experience of BANT and/or other sales methods and techniques

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Experience selling to universities, public sector, or similarly complex buyers
  • Exposure to RFPs, procurement, or budget approval processes

This Role Is Not for You If You…

  • Rely primarily on inbound leads
  • Prefer fast, transactional sales cycles
  • Need constant direction or close supervision
  • Get discouraged by long timelines or delayed responses

Practical Details

  • Location: Remote US-based, preferably CA / TX / OH
  • Type: Full-time
  • Travel: Conferences (~1 per month) and occasional campus visits
  • Compensation: Base + commission
